HSBC Global Asset Management has hired Invesco’s former ETF product head Dominic Clabby as it continues its push into the ETF market.
Clabby (pictured) has been appointed to the newly created role head of ETF strategy and will be responsible for driving the fund group’s current product range and expanding its offering. Based in London, he will report to Carmen Gonzalez-Calatayud, head of ETF Capability.
Clabby has over 17 years’ experience in the investment industry, seven of which were spent on ETF strategy and distribution. Most recently he headed the product engagement function for Invesco ETFs, joining the firm after it acquired Source ETFs in 2017. He has also worked at Axa Distribution Services and Fidelity International.
In 2020 HSBC Gam began a radical overhaul, reshuffling its senior management team and repositioning the business around core solutions, as well as specialist emerging markets, Asia and alternatives products.

One of its “strategic growth initiatives” has been to expand its ETF range, with the fund group launching a number of funds last year and debuting its first range of six sustainable ETFs last June. It currently runs around $86bn (£61.6bn) in passive strategies and $13.1bn (£9.4bn) in ETFs.

HSBC Gam global head of external wholesale and ETFs Thorsten Michalik said Clabby’s appointment would help the firm to continue “innovating our product range”.
“ETFs continue to feature as a key component in investors’ portfolios and we’re seeing strong growth and momentum within our ETF range,” Michalik said.
Clabby added: “HSBC Asset Management has seen significant growth in its ETF business over the past year, driven by the new innovative products it has brought to the market. It is an exciting time to join the firm.”
