McCarthy has 13 years’ experience in the industry, previously working at Jupiter and Axa Investment Managers and his appointment demonstrates Investec’s commitment to building high quality, long-term business partnerships within that area of the market, it said.
The hire comes on the back of Investec’s reporting of record AUM at $98.4bn as at the end of March and was made because approximately 50% of the company’s flows come from strategic partnerships in the advised channel.
These include partnerships with platforms, life companies, networks and national IFA firms.
David Aird, managing director, UK client group, said: "In a market environment of fast changing regulation and increasing complexity, strengthening relationships with our key strategic partners is more important than ever before. Strategic partnerships are an important part of our business and our comprehensive range of managed solutions and specialist funds are increasingly being recognised.
"RDR will bring us many opportunities in the independent and restricted adviser channels and this hire demonstrates our commitment to build on our success to date. I am delighted to have attracted such a high calibre individual to our UK business."
