Hunt will manage the EOS team’s business development where she will boost its ability to provide solutions for clients and help them become active owners.

She previously worked as global co-head of sustainable and responsible investment at Towers Watson, where she advised asset owners on how to implement beliefs and strategies, supporting the company’s responsible investment ethos.

Prior to this, Hunt spent five years developing Mercer’s responsible investment business.

“[Hunt’s] extensive knowledge and experience in stewardship and in-depth understanding and practice of investment consulting will help us to develop client solutions and meet their evolving needs,” said chief executive of Hermes EOS, Colin Melvin, adding that her appointment will add “substantial value” to his team.

“Emma shares our deep belief that engaged ownership is beneficial to investors and companies, and she will help us to continue our work to this end.”

On the agenda

Hermes EOS has seen increasing demand from institutional investors and in 2014 engaged with 446 companies on a range of 1,197 environmental, social, ethical, governance, and risk issues. This was a significant increase on the previous year.

“Having worked with asset owners around the world for the last 18 years, I have seen the importance of good stewardship rise up their agenda,” said Hunt. “We are now at a point where good stewardship is critical to an investment institution’s identity.”

Hunt will start her new role as director of Hermes EOS business development and client management next month.
