This is 4% higher than the all-time record set in January last year.

According the LSE, the growth was driven not only by new listings but also strong growth in secondary market trading.

Over the month the exchange saw 30 ETFs list, with fixed income accounting for just over half of that.

SPDR launched 11 new fixed income funds, Vanguard listed four and UBS one over the month.

The second most popular sector was smart beta, where eight new products were launched by UBS. The final six funds were equity focused and were launched by Amundi and Source. The four Amundi ones included one Japan offering, which the LSE said had been a key growth area in the past 12 months.

The listings in February bring the total for 2016 to 37, 11 more than the same period in 2015, or 42%.

Lida Eslami, Manager – Fixed Income, London Stock Exchange said: “There has been exciting growth in secondary market trading on our markets and we expect appetite for these products to remain very strong.”
