Saunders quit the IMA in December after more than a decade at its helm and having been instrumental in its creation in 2002 with the merger of the Association of Unit Trusts and Investment Funds with the Fund Managers’ Association.

Investec CEO Hendrik du Toit said he had the highest regard for Saunders’ insights into the “challenges facing our industry”.

Saunders said: “I have long been an admirer of Investec Asset Management. It is a real pleasure to have joined this board. I am optimistic about the future of Investec Asset Management and I look forward to making a positive contribution to the governance of this exciting firm.”

The business recently reported net inflows of £4.1bn during the past year, while total funds under management have grown to £70bn.

Elsewhere, Signia Wealth‘s board has been boosted with the appointment of Sir Keith Miles, CEO of London 2012.
