Stainer was a specialist in Towry’s investment management team and prior to that worked at Edward Jones where he was an equities specialist and head of equity marketing UK.

He is the latest addition to Quilter’s investment management team, which was bolstered in January with the appointment of Graham O’Donoghue in the Dublin office and Francis Clayton in the Jersey office.

This also follows Morgan Stanley’s sale of Quilter to private equity firm Bridgepoint at the end of January.

At the time of the sale Quilter’s management said there would be no job losses or cutbacks and this latest hire certainly seems to support that.

Stephan Vakil, MD of the firm, said: "We have a strategy in place to grow our team, particularly in investment management and in our central research function, and this will continue over coming months. The demand for our style of combined investment and relationship manager roles has increased significantly as private clients seek bespoke investment services.

"We expect to see even more interest in our discretionary service from financial advisers as we approach the RDR implementation date."
