Hughes had been with Apollo running its fund-of-funds portfolios for three years, having joined from Old Mutual Global Investors (then Skandia) where he was senior fund manager for seven years.
In the newly formed role, Hughes will join the team responsible for running AJ Bell’s recently launched managed portfolio service for financial advisers.
In addition, he will focus on expanding the investment solutions offered by AJ Bell Investments, the new investment management business that was created earlier this year.
Apollo has yet to comment on Hughes’ replacement, with its current investment team comprising Steve Brann, Craig Wetton and Ian Willings.
Alex Dymock, managing director at AJ Bell Investments, said: “Our focus is to build high quality investment solutions for financial advisers and their clients that are simple, low cost and ultimately help them to invest.
“Adding someone of Ryan’s experience to the team will help us do that and expand the range of investment solutions we are able to offer.”
