Of those asked by the salary benchmarking site, 52% of financial services workers said the amount of work they had to do had made them feel physically ill and the industry ranked as the fifth most-pressurised industry to work in.
More than a third (38%) said their boss had invaded their personal time at work and 46% said they had felt bullied in the workplace.
Construction and real estate workers were reported as under the most pressure, followed by media professionals, manufacturing workers and those employed in healthcare.
The most relaxed at work were those in technology companies, the public sector and retail where overall the level of reported pressure was lower.
Alice Leguay, co-founder at Emolument.com, warned industries lagging behind in terms of workplace happiness would need to work hard to catch up to retain their competitive advantage in the future.
“While transparency on company and sector performance when it comes to well-being at work is not widely available, standards are likely to improve thanks to pressure from millennials, especially in industries where they are most ubiquitous such as technology,” she said.
Across all industries women reported being under far more pressure than men.
Of the 359 workers polled, 43% of women said their boss invaded personal time, 57% said their workload had made them physically ill and another 57% said they had felt bullied.
Men reported lower pressure levels on all three questions, with 30%, 48% and 41% agreeing with the three respective statements.
