Smedley’s role is head of pan-European fund management and he will be based in London, reporting to Duncan Owen, head of property funds, who he previously worked with when the pair were at Jones Lang LaSalle together.
He has worked in various roles across continental Europe, including his most recent role at Invista Real Estate Investment Management where he ran its €1.5bn pan-European investment business during the course of his 15 years with the firm.
Smedley will manage the Matrix European Real Estate Trust and work particularly closely with the business development teams in France and Germany.
His direct reports include Tim Minns and Buddy Roes, manager of the Schroder Euro Logistics Fund, and Germany managing director Michael Ruhl.
Duncan Owen commented: “An important part of our business strategy is to continue to develop as market leader in the management of pan-European funds. This is a very positive step forward as Tony will be able to work closely with me in developing our business across Continental Europe with an emphasis on pan-European funds.”
