PA Congress Insight: A GEM contrarian who takes Nigerian banks seriously

An ‘extraordinary period of monetary experiment’ is a risky backdrop for any emerging market strategy to invest in but Henderson’s Glen Finegan takes solace in a long-term contrarian view that throws up plenty of opportunities.

After a number of years of poor performance by both emerging markets and currencies, Henderson’s head of emerging market equities Glen Finegan is now seeing more value in the less popular places. He explains why he invests against many of the consensus views which partly explains why he has no exposure to, for example, Southeast Asian consumers who so many wax lyrical about.

Due diligence also plays a key role in how and where Finegan invests though he stops short of running a full-on ESG strategy.
