In this newly created role, O’Donnell will report to Alexander Barry, head of UK sales at the firm.
O’Donnell joined Legg Mason in 2007 as regional sales director, responsible for fund sales to intermediaries across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
He previously spent eight years at Barclays Wealth as a portfolio manager and before that, held various senior positions at Rensburg Sheppards, now Investec Wealth and Investment.
Barry said: “The wealth management channel is undergoing significant change and is a core focus for our UK business. We have promoted Joe to this newly established role so we can better service this hugely important part of the market.”
