Currently co-managing the Jupiter Merlin Funds of Funds range, he is due to quit at the end of this year and take on a new consultancy role with the firm.

Lawery started his career in 1990 working for Hill Samuel Investment, moving to Lazard Asset Management in 1992 and qualifying as a fund manager in 1996. He joined Jupiter in 2001, and has since worked in the Merlin Independent Funds team alongside John Chatfeild-Roberts, Algy Smith-Maxwell, Amanda Sillars and David Lewis.

“Peter has been a good friend and valued colleague for many years. He has not only contributed to our outperformance but has also helped build the team’s resources for the future, working closely with Algy and me to incorporate Amanda and David into the team,” CIO and head of the Merlin Independent Funds team, Chatfeild-Roberts, said.

In the past decade, the Merlin Income Portfolio returned 103% against 64% for the IMA Mixed Investment 20%-60% shares sector average. In the past three months, the fund delivered a cumulative performance of 1.2%, compared to the sector average of 1.1%, according to FE Analytics.

“It felt like an opportune time to step back from my day to day focus on markets to concentrate on long term research and broadening some of my personal interests,” Lawery commented.
