Yates has 30 years’ experience in asset management and has held two chief executive positions, first with the Henderson Group from 1999 to 2008 and at Pioneer from 2010 until July this year.

He stepped down from the Pioneer role following its merger with Amundi and has now joined Jupiter’s board.

At Jupiter he will be a member of the nominations and remuneration boards on top of his current role as chairman of the remuneration board at St James’s Place and non-executive director role at JP Morgan Elect.

Yates said: “Jupiter has a reputation for delivering consistent investment outperformance and impressive sales growth.

“I look forward to helping the board and executive team achieve Jupiter’s strategic objectives.”

After starting his career in portfolio management, Yates held roles at Morgan Grenfell and LGT/Invesco in the 1990s.

Liz Airey, chairman of Jupiter, said: “Jupiter will benefit greatly from Roger’s broad industry experience, particularly that gained as CEO of a UK listed asset manager and as a non-executive director of a number of UK financial services companies.

“We look forward to the perspective and insight he will bring to our Board discussions as we seek to build on our successful growth strategy.”
