iShares and Vanguard have led the way this year as ETFs climbed to $1,503bn of assets globally from 171 providers across 50 exchanges, according to research consultant ETFGI.

Year to date though end of Q2, ETF inflows were £99.8bn. Vanguard gathered the largest net ETF inflows at $29.9bn, followed by iShares at $24.9bn and SPDR ETFs with $10.1bn.

db x-trackers experienced the largest net outflows so far this year at $1.4bn.

ETFGI estimates that there are now 3,309 ETFs, with 7,353 listings, while the top 100 of those account for 63.5% of global ETF assets under management.

Equity ETFs/ETPs gathered the largest net inflows year to date at $56.3bn followed by fixed income vehicles with $39.1bn and commodity funds with $6.2bn.

Currency ETFs/ETPs have experienced the largest net outflows year to date at $2bn.

Average daily trading volumes across the ETF industry were $63.7bn in June.
