Franklin Templeton Investments has launched a new smart beta European equity exchange traded fund (ETF) that tracks the LibertyQ Europe Equity Index.

The Franklin LibertyQ European Equity Ucits ETF invests in large and mid-cap European stocks and uses a multi-factor selection process with a quality and value focus. The firm said the constituents would be selected from the MSCI Europe Index.

Commenting on the launch, the firm’s head of ETF sales for Emea Caroline Baron (pictured) said: “For our line-up of multi-factor strategies, we target high quality companies that are attractively valued using momentum to identify investment trends and avoid value traps.  We also use low volatility to help provide a defensive measure against downturns”.

The fund launched on the Deutsche Börse today and will list on the London Stock Exchange and the Borsa italiana on 14 September, and on the SIX Swiss Exchange on 26 September.
