Calum Smith is to join SWIP from BlackRock in a newly created role within the firm’s fixed income business.

The global aggregate team is part of the company’s fixed income business managing funds that hold a combination of UK and overseas government and corporate bonds. For example, Guy Skinner is one of Smith’s direct reports as manager of the £44m SWIP Global Bond Plus Fund.

Working across institutional and retail mandates, Smith himself will be based in Edinburgh and report to Graeme Caughey, global head of rates, when he takes up his role on 22 October.Smith previously spent 11 years at BlackRock, most recently as a director and senior fixed income strategist, advising European clients.

His role included portfolio management responsibility for the management of a number of key corporate bond portfolios, covering asset allocation, portfolio construction, security selection and trading of UK and European corporate securities. 

He was also responsible for developing BlackRock’s global bond business in Europe, Africa, Middle East and Asia.

Prior to this he held a number of portfolio manager roles in corporate bonds and in emerging market debt at Aegon and Templeton Investment Management.
