Responsible for managing Axiom’s flagship fund, Axiom Obligataire, Gagey joins from Aviva Investors where he was a portfolio manager and managed several open-ended funds from 2006 to 2017.
Aviva Investors said it does not comment on staff departures except it confirmed he left in February. Portfolio Adviser understands Alban Tourade, head of euro credit funds, and Geoffroy Lenoir, head of euro sovereign rates have assumed his responsibilities since his departure.
With over 35 years’ experience across Europe, Gagey, who worked in Aviva Investors’ Paris office, began his career at Barclays Bank in 1983.
Since then, he has held various senior positions such as chief investment officer at Sorema, head of credit at Groupama Asset Management and at Caisse des Dépôtsm, where he managed its French Wealth Fund, investing in European equities with a long-term view.
David Benamou, chief investment officer at Axiom Alternative Investments, said the firm welcomed Gagey to its team in Paris.
Benamou said Gagey had an “excellent track record and unrivalled reputation” in the industry. He said he had been rated with five stars by Morningstar over six consecutive years.
He added: “His extensive experience in high-yield portfolio management will be invaluable to Axiom as we continue on our current growth trajectory, as we make best use of his specialist skills within our portfolio management team.”
