Balfour left Axa Framlington in May 2011 after seven years with the firm and following a reorganisation of the Japanese equities team.
Prior to Axa, Balfour worked at Baillie Gifford and earlier in her career was at Stewart Ivory.
Martin Currie Pacific Trust said: “Anja has extensive experience of Far Eastern equity portfolios having spent 22 years as a fund manager, running Japanese and international equity portfolios.”
Since leaving Axa, Balfour has become a member of Archangel Informal Investment, a business angel syndicate, and sits on the board of trustees of Venture Scotland, a charity specialising in personal development for young people.
