Reporting to Thanasis Petronikolos, head of emerging market debt at Barings, Ali’s appointment is billed as a further strengthening of the manager’s emerging market debt offering.
Most recently, Ali was a portfolio manager in the emerging markets team at Observatory Capital, where he ran the firm’s emerging market credit portfolio.
The news comes on the back of the April hire of Thomas Kwan as head of Asia debt.
“There is a very positive story around emerging market debt,” said Petronikolos. “Capital inflows to emerging markets are strong and rising, and improving fiscal and debt profiles continue to underline the credit quality of most emerging market economies.”
