Spencer joins from Aberdeen Asset Management, where he was responsible for managing several multi-asset and single country funds. He is due to take on the new role in July.

Before that he was recruited for the multi-manager division at Credit Suisse Asset Management (CSAM), where he worked alongside Potter and Burdett who founded the arm in 2004.

“Having worked with Scott before, the culture of our team is a key quality,” co-head of multi-manager Burdett said.  “Four or five people in our team have worked together since 1996, so the fit of the person is important.”

After CSAM was carved up, Burdett and Potter left to join Thames River Capital, later acquired by F&C in 2010.

With Spencer on board, the team is aiming to grow assets under management to £3bn in its MM Navigator and Lifestyle ranges over the next years. Currently the assets, including the recently awarded F&C Investment Trust mandate, total £2.1bn. Spencer will contribute to fund picking and asset allocation for these ranges.

“With well over 100 years of combined experience across the team, Scott will complement our in-depth investment expertise and will help us build on the success we have achieved to date as we enter our next phase of growth,” Burdett said.

“Following a strong period of asset gathering and performance across our F&C MM Navigator and Lifestyle fund ranges, we felt now was the right time to invest further in the expansion of our team,” co-head of multi-manager Potter commented.
