Murphy joins from VTB Capital and will be based in the group’s London office, where she will report to head of investment Eoin Murray (pictured).
She has been brought on board to ensure the £30.8bn asset manager’s research procurement process is in line with Mifid II regulation, which will come into play in January 2018.
In addition to overseeing the procurement of equity and credit research from brokers and independent research providers for Hermes’ investment team, she will establish, report and link research value, manage the research budget and provide transaction cost analysis.
With over 15 years’ experience in financial services, spanning business management roles at Barclays Wealth, Fidelity Investments and, most recently, VTB Capital, Murphy “is ideally placed to implement Hermes’ new research procurement programme,” said Murray.
“She will ensure our investment teams have the resources they need while developing best-practice adherence to incoming regulation,” he added.
