In January 2011, Addison was appointed head of wholesale as a replacement for Tony Maddock who had vacated the same role in November the previous year. Maddock left to join Lazard Asset Management as head of third-party distribution.

A year prior to this, in August 2010, Simon Wombwell’s resignation as director of sales and marketing at SWIP created the vacancy that Maddock in part took on.

Addison’s time at SWIP was singularly focused, being recruited as an investment sales director in September 2008 before being promoted to head of discretionary sales in 2010 and then head of wholesale in January 2010.

For the four years immediately prior to joining SWIP, he was a regional sales manager at Gartmore.

SWIP has confirmed that it is actively looking for a replacement and until one is named, Steve Torbet will assume responsibility for the team.

Torbet is currently interim head of distribution & client management development though he has a largely operational background having previously been insurance operations manager at SWIP, head of relationship management at Aegon Scottish Equitable and a sales operations manager at Scottish Equitable.

This follows a pattern at SWIP because when Wombwell resigned, John Brett, a qualified solicitor, was named director of sales and marketing having joined the company as director of legal and risk. He joined from his position as head of legal services at Aberdeen Asset Management where he subsequently returned as head of global distribution.
