Biermann has run the £156m Schroder European Smaller Companies Fund for five years, which he will retain as he picks up the UK mandate.

He has worked in Schroders’ pan-European small and mid-cap team for 10 years working as an analyst and fund manager, working alongside Andy Brough and the wider UK and European teams.

It is understood that Marriage will remain until Q4 to oversee an orderly handover before he leaves to set up boutique Tellworth Investments with colleague John Warren, under the BennBridge umbrella, at the end of the year.

Meanwhile, Marriage’s SAS UK Dynamic Absolute Return Fund is expected to be distributed via the Schroder GAIA platform, but Marriage will continue to run the mandate, in an outsourced capacity.

Rory Bateman, Head of UK and European Equities at Schroders, said: “Luke’s track record demonstrates outstanding portfolio management skills within the small cap universe and his investment style is ideally suited to the dynamic smaller companies portfolio.

“Schroders has a depth of talent within our equities business and we have every confidence that Luke will continue the success of the Schroder UK Dynamic Smaller Companies Fund in the years to come.”
