GAM chief risk officer Elmar Zumbuehl (pictured) has been appointed as chief executive by the firm’s new board of directors.
He joined the Swiss asset manager in 2010 following a 10-year spell at Julius Baer, where he held a range of senior roles.
Zumbuehl was announced as investor group NewGAMe’s CEO candidate on 27 September, after original nominee Randel Freeman withdrew due to unforeseen family circumstances.

The GAM board, including CEO Peter Sanderson, agreed to step down on 30 August following the collapse of Liontrust’s £96m takeover bid.
As a result, shareholders voted on director candidates put forward by Rock Investments, NewGAMe’s parent company.
The appointments, announced last week (27 September) following an EGM, include Bruellan’s Antoine Spillmann as board chair, and Carlos Esteve, Anthony Maarek, Fabien Pictet and Mr. Jeremy Smouha as directors.
They will hold their board seats until an AGM in 2024.
