Tomlins is to also take on the role of deputy manager of the £1.1bn High Yield Corporate Bond Fund, supporting lead manager Stefan Isaacs.

Isaacs was the European High Yield Bond Fund manager and will now support Tomlins as his deputy.

The firm confirmed Tomlins’ promotion to fund manager was part of a planned move since he joined M&G in June this year from Cazenove where he was deputy fund manager of the Cazenove Strategic Bond Fund.

Prior to this he worked at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers and KBC Alternative Investment Management.

Of Tomlins, Jim Leaviss, head of M&G retail fixed interest, said: “He has brought extensive experience of investment in European credit, particularly in the high yield market. He’s helped execute high yield ideas across the fixed interest fund range and investors will benefit from his depth of relevant experience.”
