Godding, formerly of Rubicon Asset Management, will be responsible for Tilney’s asset allocation process and its central investment teams. He will also join the Tilney executive committee.

He has a wide range of experience within the industry having formerly been CIO at Morgan Stanley for nine years as well as CIO and head of equity at Sigma Wealth.

“Tilney has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s leading discretionary investment management and financial planning businesses, with award winning investment track records built on a rigorous and disciplined investment process. After the successful integrations of 2016, this is very exciting time to be joining Tilney,” Godding said.

Former CIO Gareth Lewis has been promoted to managing director of investment management at the firm with a focus on new business development and high value clients.

The hire comes after Tilney, formerly Tilney Bestinvest, rebranded itself following the acquisition of Towry and Ingenious Asset Management last year, and announced a wave of UK recruitment.

Tilney CEO Peter Hall said: “We are delighted that Chris is joining Tilney as our chief investment officer and a member of the senior management team. Chris is an absolutely top-calibre CIO with extensive investment experience and he will be a great successor in the role to Gareth who has delivered exceptionally strong investment performance. Together, Gareth’s new role in supporting the growth of our investment management business and the appointment of Chris as CIO further reinforces our position as a leading UK investment manager.”
