Tilney Bestinvest names new chairman

Tilney Bestinvest has announced Will Samuel as its new chairman, replacing the outgoing Mike Covell.

Samuel is currently chairman of TSB Banking Group, which he took through IPO after the de-merger from Lloyds Bank plc.

Subject to FCA approval, he will bring over 35 years’ experience in the City to the role and has held a number of non-executive positions during this time. These include the chairmanships of Howdens Joinery Group plc, Ecclesiastical Insurance Group and HP Bulmer Holdings plc, a deputy chairmanship of Inchcape plc and a directorship of Edinburgh Investment Trust.

After qualifying as a chartered accountant, Samuel joined Schroders in 1977 initially in the investment management division, eventually becoming managing director of Schroders investment banking business in 1986. Following its sale to Citigroup he was co-chief executive of Schroder Salomon Smith Barney. In 2004 he joined Lazard & Co as vice chairman and from 2011 served as senior adviser. In 2012 he was appointed as senior adviser to the Prudential Regulation Authority.
