Sants bows out of Barclays role

Hector Sants has decided to leave Barclays after taking some time out due to stress.

Sants bows out of Barclays role

The ex-chief executive of the FSA joined Barclays as its compliance head a year ago, and in statement issued to the market the bank said that having been on sick leave for stress and exhaustion since October, Sants had decided he would not be able to return to work in the near future.

“Consequently he has decided to resign from Barclays and not return from sick leave,” the bank added.

Reacting to Sants’ decision, Barclays boss Antony Jenkins said that in just a short time the former FSA chief had made “significant progress” towards creating a world class compliance team at the bank.
