Kotze, who will manage the £115m fund alongside lead manager Craig Veysey, joins Sanlam from Rathbones Brothers where he was a fixed income analyst.

Prior to joining Rathbones he was a senior credit and macro analyst at Sanlam Private Investments.

Veysey, who has managed the fund since its launch in March 2012, said the addition of Kotze “boosts our ability to seek out undervalued opportunities, primarily within the higher credit quality bond universe”.

Ranked first quartile over one and three years, the fund invests mainly in investment grade government and corporate bonds. Over one year to 30 June it has delivered a 15.2% return, versus 6.8% for the IA sterling Strategic Bond sector, according to FE Trustnet.

Over three years the fund rose 27.6%, against 12.6% for the IA sector.
