Featherstone Partners has appointed Sophie Burke-Murphy to become investment director at the boutique wealth management firm.

Sophie Burke-Murphy joins after 10 years at Ruffer where she was also an investment director responsible for private clients and charities. Previously, she worked in the multi-manager team at Gam Investments.

At Featherstone, she will sit on the investment committee and work closely with the family office investment team. Featherstone was originally founded in 1999 to manage the investments of a single family.

In a press release, Burke-Murphy said big wealth managers are too focused on increasing assets under management. “I joined Featherstone because clients’ needs are at the fore. Featherstone is a small boutique outfit yet grounded by a huge amount of investment experience and knowledge.”

Featherstone chief executive James Barton said: “I have known Sophie for 15 years, we used to get the same bus to Piccadilly every morning! We are a small team who get on very well, so personality is very important to us. When Sophie mentioned she might be interested in joining, I knew she would be a great addition.

Barton continued: “First and foremost, Sophie is fantastic with clients. Her understanding of markets and her personable nature are a rare combination. Furthermore, as an alternative investment analyst, her experience of actively allocating capital in an unconstrained way, across all asset classes, rather than simply trying to outperform static benchmarks, is something we consider to be a key weapon in our arsenal.”

Burke-Murphy added: “Over the last few years, I have witnessed the increasing demand for good financial advice, and I believe that financial planning and investment management should go hand-in-hand, however, very few places do them both well. Featherstone seeks to address this head on.”
