While the firm would provide neither a reason for the change of status saying, nor a timeline for any further changes, it did confirm that Stephany remained a BNY Mellon employee.

In the interim, Stephany’s role as lead manager of the Newton UK Opportunities and Newton UK Equity funds will be taken on by Christopher Metcalfe, supported by the broader UK Equities team.

Stephany joined Newton’s UK equities desk in 2005, took over responsibility for the UK Opportunities fund in February 2013 and for the UK Equity strategy, which was previously run by Metcalfe in September 2014.

BNY said of Metcalfe: “Under his previous management of the Newton UK Equity Fund, the Fund was the top performing unit trust in the UK All Companies Sector in 2007 and 2008. He moved to the Multi Asset team in 2011 to expand his investment horizon and bolster performance in that area.
