Working under CEO Mark Weeks out of the firm’s London base, Butterfill will head up ETF Securities research process into global macroeconomics and changes within asset classes.

Furthermore, he will also provide investor insight into exchange-traded products, commodities, foreign exchange, fixed income and equity markets.

“This is a transformational time for ETF Securities as we continue to broaden our product offering and strengthen our position as a specialist multi-asset ETP player,” said Weeks.

“We pride ourselves on providing clients with unique market insight that helps inform their investment decisions, and James will play a pivotal role in enhancing our current research offering and overall strategy.”

Butterfill arrives from director of investment strategy and fund management berth at Coutts, where he ran a multi-asset strategy within the firm’s discretionary investment management service.

Prior to his five-year stint with Coutts, Butterfill also held equity strategist roles with HSBC and ING Bank.

Coutts confirmed that, as Butterfill was part of a wider investment team, there will be no changes to the running of its DIMS.
