Mok’s appointment follows the hiring of Tony Jordan who is manager of the EFGAM New Capital Asia Pacific Equity Income Fund.

Prior to his move, Mok co-managed the $1.5bn GAM Star China Equity Fund and during his five-year tenure with the firm the fund outperformed the MSCI China index by 72.1%, according to Bloomberg.

Mok will be based in Hong Kong and responsible for equity investing in China.

Moz Afzal, chief investment officer at EFGAM, said: "As part of our continued drive into Asia and interest in the region, we are delighted to have Mansfield on board. He is a leading manager with a wealth of experience in investing in Chinese equities, and will be a valuable asset to the team."

Mok has worked in investment since 1990 when he started as a mid-cap analyst with Hoare Govett before moving to ING Barings Securities HK in 1992 and Munich Re Asia Capital Management in 2000.
