The recent high in M&A activity is comparable to rates in 2000 and 2007, It is therefore unsurprising that some commentators believe the market is headed for a crash.

Others, including FE Analytics fund analyst Robert Wilson, argue that we are already seeing downturns, albeit in a different form. “They are sector specific this time,” he says, citing the recent dip and recovery in oil, and difficulties in retail.

M&A activity is just one of the aspects of UK equities explored in this UK equities guide produced in association with J.P.Morgan Asset Management. The guide also investigates the wide dispersion of returns as well as sector specific issues. In addition, a Q+A with J.P.Morgan portfolio manager James Illsley provides insight into his cautiously optimistic approach.
