Sutherland was SLI’s first ever investment director when the specialist business was launched in 1998. Until 1 July, when he officially retires, he will remain as manager or co-manager of the £587m Corporate Bond, £211m Income, £95m Select Income, £155m Ethical Corporate Bond and the £103m Strategic Bond funds as well as various segregated pension portfolios.

He has been the first and only lead manager of the Corporate Bond Fund that was launched in July 1995.

In the same report in which Morningstar OBSR confirmed it was placing this fund under review, it added that deputy manager, David Sol, will assume management of the fund while SLI recruits a new lead manager.

Craig MacDonald, currently head of investment grade credit, will take over Sutherland’s role as head of credit.

MacDonald joined SLI as an investment director in 2002 and has expanded his role since then to take on the management of euro and global corporate credit as well as sterling bond propositions.

He also manages the European investment grade team as well as being responsible for a range of third-party corporate bond funds.
